Reiki is an ancient Japanese form of energy healing that assists with physical, emotional, and mental healing. The technique known today as “Usui Reiki Ryoho” was developed by Dr. Mikao Usui in 1922. This system of energy healing is based on the theory that everything around us and inside of us is made up of energy. Energy flows through us, around us, and helps us to heal. When there is an injury, illness, or emotions in the body that cause a sense of dis-ease, it can cause a blockage of energy in the body that needs to be released in order for energy to properly flow through the body to heal.
A Reiki practitioner works as a conduit to help bring the universal energy that lies around us, through their body, out of their hands, and into the area of the body needed to help clear blockages and brings new energy into the body to heal.
A Reiki treatment is approximately 1 hour, you remain fully clothed, removing only your shoes and any jewelry. The treatment can be done laying on a massage table or sitting in a chair, and consists of a gentle laying on of hands, from your head to your feet on both the front and back of your body. Symbols are drawn over the body to help promote the release of any tension, pain, or emotions that may need to release from the body before drawing new energy in.
You may feel a warmth from the practitioner's hands as you draw new energy into your body to heal. You may feel a release of emotions, memories, or visions coming to the surface as blockages release, or you may simply feel a deep sense of relaxation, bringing you into a deep, peaceful state of mind or sleep.
It is good to drink plenty of water to replenish and hydrate after a treatment, and rest to process the new energy received during the session.
